Trump lauds Modi after BJP’s win in West Bengal

US President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi following what the White House described as a “historic and decisive election victory” for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal.
White House spokesperson Kush Desai said that during a recent phone call last month, Trump expressed admiration for Modi’s leadership and said India is “lucky” to have him as its Prime Minister. “The President congratulates Prime Minister Modi on this recent, historic, and decisive election victory,” Desai was quoted as saying.
The BJP’s reported win in West Bengal marks a major political shift in the state, which has long been a stronghold of the opposition Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee. The result, as cited in a media report, ends Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year hold on power and represents a significant breakthrough for the BJP.
The outcome is being seen as a boost for Modi’s national standing midway through his third term, strengthening the party’s influence in one of India’s most politically significant states.
Addressing supporters in New Delhi, Modi said, “A new chapter has been added to Bengal’s destiny. People’s power has prevailed and the BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.”
