Train coach attendant arrested for carrying liquor from UP to Bihar

The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested a coach attendant of the Gharib Nawaz Express for allegedly carrying liquor from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar for sale at higher prices, officials said on Wednesday.

GRP Ballia station in-charge Raj Kapoor Singh said the accused, identified as Rahul Kumar Ram, 28, a resident of Kumadpur village under Rangra police station in Bihar's Bhagalpur district, was arrested during a checking drive at Ballia railway station on Tuesday.

Police recovered over two dozen bottles of liquor from his backpack, Singh said.

During interrogation, Rahul allegedly told police that he worked as a coach attendant on train number 15716, Gharib Nawaz Express, and used to purchase liquor from Uttar Pradesh and other places and take it to Bihar for sale at higher prices due to prohibition in the state.

He had allegedly purchased the liquor in Ballia and was waiting to board the train to take it to Bihar when he was caught, police said.

A case has been registered against him under the Excise Act and he was sent to jail, Singh said.
