TMC slams CM Suvendu’s claim on Mamata’s injury

The pro-Mamata Trinamool Congress has trashed Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks accusing former Chief Minister Banerjee of faking a leg injury in the 2021 Assembly elections to draw public sympathy at the cost of the BJP to win the polls, which she managed to do successfully.

Calling the Chief Minister’s remarks “tasteless, unfortunate and disinformative,” senior TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh on Sunday said Adhikari should be ashamed of making such statements, lest it would “degrade his own impression in public.”

He said, “Slandering and spreading canards about anyone’s personal medical history is reprehensible. Mamata di indeed injure her left foot, causing the doctors to advise her bed rest, which she wouldn’t... This is recorded fact,” adding, “it is beyond medical ethics to pass on or reveal medical reports of one person to others, and one is sure the doctors who treated her would not do that.” Adhikari’s remarks were baseless and were “tossed in public as a political rhetoric to gain electoral mileage in Nandigram by-elections,” Ghosh said.

Campaigning for Nandigram and Rejinagar by-elections came to a close on Sunday. The elections are to take place on October 6.

The Chief Minister had earlier accused Banerjee of faking a minor foot injury during a campaign in Nandigram ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections.

“Mamata Banerjee faked her leg injury... There was no fracture ... Let her challenge and I will reveal everything ... The doctors who were privy to it know this ... The report dated March 11, 2021, of the Department of Radio Diagnosis of a Government hospital confirms this.

These were all done to gain public sympathy during elections, he said, adding that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was already investigating the matter.

Adhikari also refuted the “Gaddar” (traitor) charges leveled against him by the Mamata TMC, saying, “It was Mamata Banerjee who was the real Gaddar because she not only left the Congress that made her MP and minister but also broke that party... She also cheated the BJP, forgetting what then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee did for her... Her political career had almost ended post-2004 parliamentary elections ... It was the BJP that revived her and backed her throughout ... But she betrayed the party too ... So she and no one else is the real Gaddar.”   

The TMC often accuses Adhikari of being a traitor because he left in 2021 to join the BJP.
