Three of six workers missing after Nepal floods return to UP village
Three of six people from a village in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district who went missing after the flash floods in Nepal have returned home, while the other three remain untraced, officials said on Monday.
Kaptanganj station officer Dhirendra Rai said the six residents of Sudhiyani village had travelled to Nepal to work at a 216-MW hydropower project in the Trishuli region of Rasuwa district, one of the areas badly affected by the floods.
Three of the workers returned to their village on Monday, Rai said.
Those who returned were identified as Rajkumar Tiwari, Abhishek Tiwari and Akash Kanojia.
The three workers still missing are Abhay Tiwari, also known as Dheeraj Tiwari, Aman Gaud and Pankaj Rajbhar, officials said.
The death toll from the flash floods in Nepal rose to 939 on Monday, while around 4,000 people remained missing, authorities said.
More than 10,000 people have been rescued so far as search teams continue efforts to locate those still stranded. Intermittent rain, swollen rivers and damaged roads and bridges have made rescue operations difficult.
The flash floods struck northern and central Nepal on August 26 after an ice and rock collapse or avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, devastating several towns and villages. (with inputs from PTI)
