Three held for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri

Three youngsters allegedly sexually assultef a 19-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district and were arrested within hours of the incident, a police official said on Sunday, August 16.
Circle Officer Vivek Tiwari told reporters that the three accused Siddharth, 22, Madhumesh Mishra, 23, and Vishu Kanojia, 19 have been arrested and further legal action is underway. The three were initially taken into custody and questioned regarding the incident, police said.
Superintendent of Police Dr Khyati Garg said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon. According to Garg, one of the accused, who was on friendly terms with the woman, allegedly invited her to his home when his parents were not present.
He, along with two other friends, allegedly sexual assulted her, and the three fled the scene after her condition deteriorated.
The survivor later returned home and informed her grandparents about the incident, following which her family took her to the district hospital and informed the police, according to the SP.
Garg said all three accused are residents of the same area and a case has been registered against them under Section 70(1) (gang rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The survivor's statement is being recorded in accordance with legal procedure, the SP said, adding that she is undergoing treatment at the district hospital and her condition is said to be improving.
