Three children drown in Gorakhpur pond while taking bath on Nag Panchami

Three children drowned in a pond in the Bansgaon area on Monday, August 17 while they had gone for a bath on Nag Panchami, police said.
According to villagers, several children had gathered near the pond for Nag Panchami and some of them entered the water to bathe. The three children ventured into deeper water and drowned.
After considerable effort, one child was pulled out but was found dead. The other two were subsequently rescued and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared them dead, Additional SP (South) Dinesh Puri said.
The deceased were identified as Sachin (14), Harish (12) and Anuj (9), he said.
Sachin was a Class 6 student and his father works as a labourer.
Anuj, a Class 3 student, was the son of a painter and polisher in Gujarat, while Harish, a Class 5 student, was the son of a labourer in Dubai.
Bansgaon MLA Vimlesh Paswan and other public representatives and officials reached the village after being informed about the incident.
They inspected the spot and met the bereaved families, assuring them of all possible assistance.
