Real sneakerheads and regular mall shoppers share a huge obsession right now. They are hunting down the absolute weirdest shoes on the market. The numbers completely back up this massive trend. Experts are betting the global footwear industry will top 143 billion dollars by 2031. A massive slice of that pie belongs to deeply weird and highly customized kicks. Art collectives like MSCHF break the internet all the time by releasing goofy cartoon boots made from totally strange materials. We keep seeing massive platform soles, bright neon colors, and fabrics that totally fight each other. People love lacing up these weird creations because your feet are now the absolute best place to show off your personality. Gaurav Tandon is the Managing Director of Limited Edt India and he explains that buyers want their footwear to speak for them. He notes that intense interest in bold colors and custom designs acts as a natural extension of personal style. He adds that bringing local craftsmanship and storytelling to a famous shoe gives it a completely different personality.

Hydro-Dipping your own kicks
Making a wild, marbled pattern on a plain white pair of canvas shoes takes barely any effort. The trick uses ordinary water and oil spray paint to push bright colors straight onto the cloth.
- Take out the laces and pack the shoes tight with plastic bags. Wrap painter’s tape carefully over the rubber bottoms and any spots you want to stay completely spotless.
- Fill a large plastic bin about halfway with regular tap water. Spray two or three oil-based enamel colours lightly across the water it should float, not sink. Grab a stick and stir it through until the pattern looks right to you.
- Hold the shoe by the heel, lower it straight through the paint film into the water below. Pull it back out. Leave the shoes outside to dry overnight, peel the tape off in the morning, and that’s it. Custom shoes designed by you, worn only by you.
