'The Shifting of Silence': Exhibition brings together 32 emerging artists to reflect on changing times
An exhibition featuring works by 32 emerging contemporary artists will explore the changing conditions of the world, including climate change, urban expansion, geopolitical tensions and conflicts.
Organised by Blueprint12 and Space118 Art Foundation, "The Shifting of Silence" will open on July 30 at Bikaner House. The exhibition will conclude on August 2.
Proceeds from the exhibition will fund the Space118 Fine Arts Grant, which provides financial assistance, mentorship and professional development opportunities to emerging artists across India, the organisers said.
Curated by Saloni Doshi, the fundraising exhibition explores "the subtle boundary between presence and absence, between what is spoken and what is felt", with artists turning to themes of growth, erosion, cycles and the fragile intelligence of natural systems.
"The title also gestures toward another kind of silence: the shifting silences that emerge in times of conflict and political realignment. These are not only the silences of those directly affected by war, but also of distant observers, nations, and communities negotiating uncertainty, complicity, grief, and responsibility," the organisers said.
The exhibition will feature works by artists including Aman Kumar Bavariya, Durga Prasad Chaganti, Darshan Manjare, Avneet Chawla, Suresh Singha, Samir Das, Neeraj Yadav, Mansie Shah, Vrudhi Patel, Shruti Goyal, Prutha Jain, Mousam Ali and Riddhi Vasoya.
Through painting, sculpture, installation, photography and mixed-media practices, the artists will engage with landscapes, bodies and materials as living archives that hold memory, resilience, transformation and possibility.
"The Shifting of Silence reflects Space118's ongoing commitment to nurturing contemporary artistic voices and creating meaningful platforms for dialogue. Bringing this exhibition to Delhi in collaboration with Blueprint12 extends that commitment into a new context, while supporting the larger vision of the Space118 Fine Arts Grant, building future opportunities for artists and sustaining a vital ecosystem for contemporary art," Doshi, founder of Space118 Art Foundation, said.
The exhibition aims to create a sustainable model "by investing directly back into the arts ecosystem".
"For Blueprint12, collaboration with Space118 felt like a natural partnership because our own journey has been shaped by similar values. We have always believed in building sustained relationships with artists and creating opportunities for critical engagement beyond the traditional gallery model," Mandiraa Lambba, co-founder of Blueprint12, said.
