Thane IT professional loses Rs 2.99 lakh in phone hacking fraud

Thane, Sep 20 (PTI) An IT professional in Thane city lost Rs 2.99 lakh in a remote mobile phone hacking incident, following which a case was registered against unidentified cyber fraudsters, a police official said on Sunday.
As per the complaint of Dhaval Anand Mundada, the offence took place between August 21 and 28, with cybercriminals managing to gain unauthorized remote access to his smartphone, the official said.
"The accused then fraudulently transferred Rs 2,99,310 into secondary bank accounts. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act. Efforts are on to crack the case and nab the culprits," the Kalwa police station official said.
