Telangana man dies by suicide after alleged betting, investment losses

A 36-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in Telangana's Burgampahad after suffering financial losses in cricket betting and other investment schemes, according to a complaint filed by his wife.

Nageswara Rao allegedly made a video call to his wife, Sadhanala Madhavi, shortly before his death and told her, “I am dying, take care of the children”, before disconnecting the call.

Madhavi, in her complaint, said the incident occurred on September 8 and alleged that Rao had been under severe mental distress for about a week after losing all the money he had invested.

She also accused a man identified as Veeru of causing her husband's financial losses and alleged that he had persuaded Rao to put money into cricket betting and other schemes by promising high returns.

After the video call, Rao's family members searched for him across the village. They found his motorcycle parked near a water pumping station and later located him hanging from a shed in agricultural fields.

The family brought him down and rushed him to a private hospital, but he died on the way, according to the complaint.

Police also received a purported suicide note, allegedly handwritten by Rao, which was found in the pocket of his T-shirt. Madhavi alleged that Rao had named Veeru in the note, accused him of financially cheating him and held him responsible for his death.

She further said Rao had discussed his financial losses with his friends, Duddhukuri Ramesh and Gollapudi Satyanarayana, who later informed the family about his financial difficulties.

Madhavi has urged Burgampahad police to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her husband's death and take legal action against Veeru over the alleged financial fraud.

Police are investigating the matter.
