Jamshedpur : Worker dies after being trapped under hydraulic machine at Tata Steel

A contractual worker at Tata Steel’s Tinplate Division died after coming under a hydraulic machine inside the company premises in Jamshedpur on Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Karan Kumar, a native of Saran in Bihar. He was employed by a private company and was working in the Mobile Elevated Work Platform unit when he came under the hydraulic machine, Golmuri police station officer-in-charge Sanjay Kumar said.
“The body has been kept at the MGM Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem and would be handed over to family members tomorrow,” the officer said.
In a statement, Tata Steel expressed condolences over the worker’s death and said the incident occurred during maintenance work on a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) at its Tinplate project site.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic fatality at the company’s Tinplate Project site involving a contract worker,” the company said.
A Tata Steel spokesperson said the incident was under investigation and further details were being ascertained.
