Tamil Nadu Election Results 2026 Live Updates: Vijay’s TVK Surges Ahead, DMK Trails

Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Results 2026 are unfolding dramatically, with actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as a major force, overtaking the ruling DMK in early counting trends.
The state, long dominated by Dravidian politics led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, is witnessing a three-cornered contest this time. The DMK, led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, is facing stiff competition from both the AIADMK alliance and TVK.
According to the latest Election Commission trends, TVK is leading in over 100 seats in the 234-member Assembly, inching closer to the majority mark of 118. The AIADMK is ahead in around 60 seats, while the DMK has slipped to fewer than 50 leads.
The surge of TVK marks a significant shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, where Dravidian parties have dominated for over five decades. The last time a non-Dravidian party secured power in the state was in 1962.
Exit polls had largely predicted a second consecutive term for the DMK. However, projections by Axis My India had hinted at a strong “Vijay effect”, suggesting that TVK could emerge as a kingmaker — a prediction that appears to be aligning with current trends.
In key constituencies such as Kolathur and Perambur, TVK candidates are leading, while the DMK is managing to hold ground in select strongholds like Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni.
Celebrations have begun among TVK supporters, with visuals showing jubilant scenes at the residence of Vijay as the party edges closer to a potential historic debut victory.
As counting continues, Tamil Nadu may be on the verge of a major political transformation, with TVK challenging the long-standing dominance of Dravidian parties.
