Supreme Court Collegium Clears Appointments to Orissa, Gauhati High Courts

The Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday approved the appointment of four advocates as judges of the Orissa High Court and recommended an advocate and a judicial officer for appointment as judges of the Gauhati High Court.
The collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, approved the appointment of advocates Sasmita Tripathy, Aditya Narayan Das, Rajjeet Roy and Gautam Misra as judges of the Orissa High Court.
The collegium also approved the appointment of advocate Nchumbemo Mozhui and judicial officer Helen Dawngliani as judges of the Gauhati High Court.
In a separate decision, the collegium approved the appointment of judicial officers Santosh Sharma, Sushma Sawant and Sudhir Kumar as judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The collegium also approved the appointment of Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, an additional judge, as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court.
It further resolved to extend the tenure of six additional judges of the Calcutta High Court for another six months. They are Justice Prasenjit Biswas, Justice Uday Kumar, Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta, Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee and Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi.
The collegium also approved the appointment of additional judge Justice Rohit Kapoor as a permanent judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
