Sonam Wangchuk sets 3 conditions to end hunger strike
Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will end his over three-week-long hunger strike only if the Centre agrees to three key conditions aimed at addressing the ongoing education crisis.
Speaking from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, where he was shifted after being removed from the protest site, Wangchuk said the government must first accept responsibility for the alleged failures in the education system, particularly repeated examination paper leaks.
His second condition is that political leaders across party lines publicly assure him that the issues he has raised will be discussed during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Lastly, Wangchuk demanded the restoration of his freedom of movement, speech, and communication, claiming these rights have been restricted since his hospitalisation.
The activist has been on an indefinite fast to seek accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. His protest has drawn widespread support from students, civil society groups, and several opposition leaders.
As the Monsoon Session begins, all eyes are on the government's response and whether dialogue can bring an end to the prolonged hunger strike.
