WMC 2026 in Peru: India eyes critical minerals deals

The 27th World Mining Congress (WMC 2026), scheduled for 24-26 June 2026 at the Lima Convention Centre in Peru, presents a unique opportunity for Indian investors, mining companies, technology providers, equipment manufacturers, and financial institutions to strengthen their presence in one of the world’s most resource-rich regions.

Under the theme “Mining for the Future: Trust, Transformation & Technology,” the congress will bring together government leaders, industry executives, researchers, investors, and innovators from across the globe.

Peru’s selection as host country is particularly significant. As one of the world’s leading mining nations, Peru occupies a strategic position in the global supply chain of critical minerals essential for the energy transition, advanced manufacturing, telecommunications, and emerging technologies.

For India, whose economy continues to grow at one of the fastest rates globally, securing reliable access to critical minerals has become a strategic priority.

The World Mining Congress offers Indian stakeholders a timely platform to engage directly with governments, mining companies, financial institutions, and technology partners from Peru and across Latin America.

Peru has emerged as India’s largest trading partner in Latin America and one of the principal suppliers of minerals and mineral concentrates to the Indian market. The congress will provide Indian companies with direct access to investment opportunities throughout Peru’s mining sector.

Particularly attractive for Indian investors is Peru’s vast copper potential. Copper will remain indispensable for electric vehicles, power transmission infrastructure, renewable energy systems, artificial intelligence data centers, and advanced electronics. The event will also highlight opportunities related to lithium and other minerals essential for battery manufacturing.

Beyond resource extraction, the congress will showcase cutting-edge technologies transforming the mining industry. This technological dimension creates significant opportunities for Indian technology firms. Indian equipment manufacturers will also find a valuable platform to present competitive solutions.

Financial institutions from India should view WMC 2026 as an opportunity to explore project financing and strategic partnerships.

Another important aspect of the congress is the increasing emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. The congress theme of “Trust” is particularly relevant in today’s mining environment.

The theme of “Transformation” reflects the profound changes reshaping the global mining sector. The theme of “Technology” aligns closely with India’s strengths as a global innovation hub.  An additional attraction for international visitors is the congress’s coincidence with Inti Raymi, the ancient Festival of the Sun celebrated in Cusco.

For Indian investors, Peru’s historical legacy may also resonate on a deeper level. The World Mining Congress can therefore serve as a catalyst for expanding India-Peru relations beyond traditional trade.

Looking ahead, the strategic importance of Latin America to India’s economic future is likely to increase substantially. Participation in WMC 2026 should therefore be viewed not merely as attendance at an international conference, but as an investment in future opportunities.

As the world moves toward a more technology-driven and resource-intensive future, the World Mining Congress 2026 offers a timely and strategic platform for India and Peru to deepen their partnership.
