Wheat exports resume at Kandla Port after 4 years

In a significant development for India’s maritime trade, wheat exports have resumed from Deendayal Port after a gap of four years, following earlier restrictions imposed by the Central Government. The renewed activity has brought optimism to the port sector, with a large consignment now being prepared for shipment to Dubai.
According to official sources, loading operations of 22,000 metric tonnes of wheat have commenced aboard the cargo vessel MV Anna Theresa. The export is being handled by ITC Limited, which is acting as the primary shipper for this consignment.
This marks the first major wheat export from Kandla since 2022, when sudden export restrictions had led to a buildup of stock at the port. With the resumption of exports, the accumulated wheat stock is now being cleared, reviving cargo movement activities.
During a visit to the port, Sushilkumar Singhal, Chairman of the Deendayal Port Authority, reviewed the ongoing loading operations. He emphasised worker safety as a top priority, especially in view of the extreme heat conditions in the Kutch region. Interacting directly with labourers, he urged them to take necessary health precautions and make proper use of safety equipment while on duty.
The restart of wheat exports is expected to enhance cargo handling at the port and provide significant economic relief to stakeholders associated with the trade and logistics chain.
