Wanted criminal killed in encounter with Police in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli

A wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Wednesday, August 5, while a police constable sustained bullet injuries during the operation, officials said.

Superintendent of Police NP Singh said the accused, identified as Furkan, was an alleged member of the Mukim Kala gang and was killed near Ragana village under the Jhinjhana police station limits.

According to the police, Furkan was wanted in more than two dozen criminal cases, including charges of murder, loot and other serious offences. He was also among the accused in the 2014 murder of trader Vinod Singhal in Kairana.

During the exchange of fire, Constable Harmendra suffered a bullet injury and was admitted to a hospital for treatment, the SP said.

Police said they recovered a carbine, a pistol, 20 cartridges and a motorcycle from Furkan's possession.
