'I Want KCR to Die' : Telangana Congress MLA's Remark Sparks Uproar

Shadnagar Congress MLA Veerlapally Shankar has triggered a fresh political controversy after making inflammatory remarks against former Chief Minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), stating that he wishes for KCR's death and that the state would be "better off" once it happens.

The comments, made amid ongoing tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS during the current Assembly session, have quickly become a talking point in Telangana's political circles. Shankar's remarks come at a time when the Assembly has already been witnessing heated exchanges between the two parties, with BRS legislators recently staging protests outside the Assembly gate.

This is not the first time Shankar, a first-time MLA from Shadnagar, has drawn criticism for controversial public statements. He has previously been at the centre of row over remarks targeting the Velama community and BRS leaders KTR and Kavitha, for which he had to issue a public apology after facing backlash.

BRS leaders are likely to seize on the latest remarks to target the ruling Congress, accusing it of resorting to personal and inflammatory attacks rather than substantive political debate — a charge the party has levelled at Congress functionaries on earlier occasions as well. KCR, who has largely stayed away from Assembly proceedings and public appearances in recent months, has not commented on the remarks so far.

The Congress party's central and state leadership has also not issued an official response to Shankar's comments at the time of filing this report.

The row adds to a series of high-decibel political exchanges in Telangana in recent days, with the ongoing Assembly session already marked by sharp confrontations between treasury and opposition benches.
