Man beaten to death after being held captive in UP's Pilibhit

A 38-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with sticks after being held captive inside a house following a dispute in Sisaiya village of Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district, police said on Sunday, August 30.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, after which the accused allegedly fled the spot, police said.
According to Barkhera police, Sanjay Kumar alias Chhote Lal, a resident of Sisaiya village, was allegedly dragged into a house by Kanhai Lal and his associates around 8 pm following a dispute.
The accused, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, then locked Sanjay inside a room and assaulted him with sticks, police said.
His cries for help alerted family members and other villagers, who rushed to the house. By the time they reached the spot, Sanjay had suffered serious injuries and was unconscious, police said.
His family members took him to the Pilibhit district hospital, but he died on the way, they added.
Police reached the spot after being informed about the incident and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Barkhera Station House Officer Satyendra Kumar said police had launched an investigation into the incident.
"Based on the complaint filed by the family members, a case has been registered against Kanhai Lal and his associates. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the accused, and they will be arrested soon," Kumar told reporters.
The incident comes three days after another man was allegedly beaten to death in Pilibhit district.
On Wednesday night, farmer Rampal was allegedly beaten to death in Basantapur village under the Neuria police station area.
Police later arrested the main accused, identified as Anil, and sent him to jail.
