Two interstate drug traffickers held with MDMA worth Rs 8 lakh in Kerala

Police on Sunday, July 26, arrested two alleged interstate drug traffickers and seized nearly 100 grams of MDMA from their possession at Vazhikadavu in this district, officials said.

The arrested men were identified as Saifudheen (38), a native of Manappatta, and Riyas Ali (32), a resident of Krumbalangode, both in Malappuram district.

According to the police, the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force received information that the duo was travelling from Bengaluru with a large quantity of narcotic drugs.

Acting on the tip-off, the DANSAF team intercepted their car near Anamari in Vazhikadavu at around 1 am on Sunday.

Police said an initial search of the vehicle did not yield any contraband. However, a subsequent body search led to the recovery of a packet containing MDMA from the accused.

A total of 98.2 grams of MDMA, estimated to be worth around Rs 8 lakh in the illegal market, was seized, police said.

According to investigators, the duo allegedly procured MDMA from Bengaluru and sold it at higher prices in Kerala.

Vazhikadavu police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and formally arrested the two.

Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the drug trafficking network, police added.
