Two Indians killed, two injured after car plunges into Nepal's Phewa Lake

Two Indian nationals died and two others were injured on Friday after the car they were travelling in fell into Phewa Lake in Nepal's Pokhara, police said.

According to Jitendra B C, chief of the Gandaki Province Police Office, the Bihar-registered car plunged into the lake at around 4:50 am.

One of those killed was identified as 26-year-old Navadeep Kumar Yadav from Raxaul in Bihar's East Champaran district. The identity of the second deceased Indian national was not immediately known.

The injured were identified as 27-year-old Anmol Kumar Yadav and 33-year-old Suraj Yadav, both residents of Raxaul. They were pulled out of the vehicle and taken to Gandaki Medical College, where their condition was reported to be stable.

The accident occurred near the Gaurichautara bend in Pokhara-18. Police said the driver lost control of the car while it was travelling from Sedi towards the lakeside.

A team of around two dozen security personnel was deployed shortly after the accident to carry out the rescue operation, police said.

Rescuers used a crane to pull the car out of the lake before taking it to the Baidam Ward Police Office.

The two deceased were found unconscious in the water and taken to the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences. Doctors later declared them dead, Onlinekhabar news portal reported.

Police have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident, according to the report.  (with inputs from PTI)
