TMC faces fresh turmoil as dissident MPs hold Delhi meeting during Mamata Banerjee’s INDIA Bloc Visit

Fresh signs of internal unrest have emerged within the Trinamool Congress after a group of dissident MPs reportedly held a closed-door meeting in New Delhi while party chief Mamata Banerjee attended the INDIA bloc meeting in the national capital.

According to party sources, around 20 MPs participated in the informal gathering on Sunday night, fuelling speculation that the political turbulence affecting the party in West Bengal may now be spreading to its parliamentary ranks.

Sources familiar with the discussions said several MPs expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s current parliamentary leadership and deliberated on possible future courses of action. While no formal decision was reported, the meeting has intensified speculation about growing divisions within the party.

Senior TMC MP Sougata Roy acknowledged reports of the meeting but said he was not invited to participate. He also dismissed suggestions of an immediate large-scale exodus from the party and reiterated his commitment to remaining with the TMC.

The development comes at a sensitive time for the party, which has been dealing with internal challenges following recent political setbacks in West Bengal. Political observers view the gathering as a sign that dissatisfaction among some elected representatives is no longer confined to the state legislature.

The situation gained further attention after veteran Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray resigned from both the party and Parliament earlier in the day, citing concerns over governance and organisational issues. Although his resignation was not officially linked to the MPs’ meeting, reports suggesting his presence at the gathering have added to speculation about a broader dissident movement.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee and senior party leaders were in Delhi participating in the INDIA bloc meeting, where opposition parties sought to project unity and discuss political strategy ahead of future electoral contests.

With informal consultations reportedly continuing among some MPs in Delhi, questions are being raised about the future direction of the party and the extent of internal discontent within its parliamentary wing.
