Tamil Nadu will continue two-language policy, says Governor Arlekar

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekarreiterated that the State Government will continue to follow the two-language policy, comprising Tamil and English, during his first address to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Addressing the House, the Governor highlighted the State Government’s commitment to preserving Tamil language and culture while ensuring quality education and opportunities for students. He stated that the existing two-language system has played a significant role in the State’s educational and social development.

The Governor also outlined the government's key priorities, including welfare initiatives, economic growth, industrial development and social justice. He emphasised the administration's focus on inclusive development and improving public services across sectors.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates over language policies and the implementation of educational reforms. The Tamil Nadu Government has consistently maintained its stand in favour of the two-language formula and opposed the introduction of a mandatory three-language system.

The Assembly address also highlighted the government's vision for strengthening infrastructure, creating employment opportunities and enhancing the welfare of various sections of society while continuing to safeguard the State's linguistic identity.
