Supreme Courts of India and Russia sign MoU on judicial cooperation

The Supreme Court of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation to enhance judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed in Moscow by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov during an official meeting on Tuesday. A delegation from the Indian apex court also accompanied the CJI.
According to an official release, the meeting took place in Moscow’s Marble Hall, where both sides highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between India and Russia and discussed ways to deepen judicial engagement.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas such as judicial education, exchange programmes, and training initiatives. Both sides also emphasised the importance of adapting to technological advancements, including the use of artificial intelligence and digital tools in court processes to improve efficiency and access to justice.
The two judiciaries also explored practical mechanisms for sustained institutional collaboration based on sovereign equality and international legal frameworks.
Following detailed deliberations, both sides signed the MoU, committing to expand cooperation through exchange visits, joint seminars, conferences, and training programmes. A joint working group will also be set up to further develop strategies for technological and institutional collaboration.
Officials said the agreement marks a step toward deeper judicial engagement and knowledge-sharing between the two countries’ top courts.
