Sirmaur: 26-year-old biker killed after JCB collision, locals block NH-7

A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed after allegedly being hit by a JCB machine in Kyarda village of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Thursday, triggering a protest and road blockade by local residents.

The deceased was identified as Saurabh, a resident of Paonta Sahib. According to eyewitness Balbir Singh, Saurabh was riding his motorcycle when a speeding JCB allegedly struck him near Kyarda. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Civil Hospital in Paonta Sahib, where doctors referred him to a higher medical centre. However, he died while being taken there.

Following the incident, local residents blocked National Highway 7, which connects Paonta Sahib, Kala Amb and Chandigarh, protesting the death and alleging that the JCB operator had fled the spot.

Police reached the site and assured the protesters that prompt and strict action would be taken. Following the assurance, the protesters lifted the blockade and traffic movement was restored.

Police seized the JCB machine and launched a search for the driver. Local reports said the machine was owned by a resident of Behdewala, while the operator remained absconding. Police have initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.

Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Nischit Singh Negi confirmed the death and said efforts were underway to apprehend the driver.
