Man gets life term for 2017 murder of Class 12 student in Shamli

A fast-track court in Kairana, Shamli district, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a Class 12 student in 2017 after she objected to his inappropriate behaviour.

Special Judge Ritu Nagar convicted Amarpal under Section 302 of the erstwhile Indian Penal Code and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. District Government Counsel Sanjay Chauhan told PTI on Thursday that the court directed 80 per cent of the fine to be given to the victim's family.

The court acquitted two other accused, Surendra and Sunder, citing lack of evidence. A fourth accused was tried separately as a juvenile, Chauhan said.

According to the prosecution, the girl was returning home from school in Shyam Ghari village on December 13, 2017, when Amarpal allegedly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon.

The prosecution said Amarpal had feelings for the girl and attacked her after she objected to his inappropriate behaviour.

The girl's brother had filed a complaint against four people, including Amarpal, Surendra, Sunder and the juvenile, in connection with the murder.  (with inputs from PTI)
