Salman Khan speaks against misuse of AI, calls for strict action over deepfakes

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has spoken out against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence, calling for strict action against those who create fake AI-generated videos and urging authorities to introduce laws to curb such content.

Khan discussed the issue on "Bigg Boss 20", with a video of his remarks circulating online.

The actor said the rapid advancement of AI had become "scary" and described the misuse of the technology as a serious concern.

"Someone made an AI video, or did AI voice dubbing, it is wrong. AI has progressed so much, it is very scary. It is a very serious thing," he said.

Khan said people were using AI to edit or manipulate statements and create videos involving individuals without their consent.

"You said something, and someone used AI to edit it and abuse. You know what they're doing? AI videos bana rahe hain yeh. Bahut saare logon ke (They're making AI videos of so many people), and even I am there in the AI video," he said.

Calling for stricter regulation, Khan said people who knowingly create and circulate such material should face legal action.

"Now, people who don't know it is AI-generated content might post Salman Khan was there. But those who know this reality and still created the video, what kind of people are they? So those kinds of people should be put behind bars," he said.

Khan also called for legislation and greater regulation of social media platforms to check the spread of AI-generated content.

"Jab tak koi ek aadh, do aisa andar jaayega nahi na, tab tak yeh rukne wala hai nahi. There has to be a law needs to be passed, and there has to be censorship on social media," he said.

AI-generated deepfake videos and images involving celebrities have emerged as a growing concern on online platforms. Actors including Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have previously been targeted by such content.

Mandanna was among the early Bollywood actors to publicly address the issue after a deepfake video featuring her face surfaced online in 2023. She described the incident as "extremely scary", while several celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan and Naga Chaitanya, expressed support for her.
