Kyiv hit by Russian drones and missiles, two killed

Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured after Russia launched a drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early Tuesday, local authorities said.

The attack followed a pause over the weekend and came as US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arrived in Kyiv for their first official visit as part of renewed efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Ukrainian State Emergency Service said damage and fires were reported in at least five districts of the capital. The Kyiv City Military Administration said civilian infrastructure was damaged at at least 16 locations.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a 26-storey non-residential building was hit. A fire also broke out at another location in the district, with flames spreading to a nearby non-residential building.

Rescuers saved one person during search operations and evacuated two people from an apartment in a 16-storey residential building, authorities said.

In the Solomianskyi district, people were trapped inside a five-storey residential building. Emergency teams rescued at least 10 people, according to the State Emergency Service.

Fires were also reported in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts following the overnight attack.  (with inputs from PTI)
