Telangana CM orders magisterial probe into nurse’s alleged rape-murder

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged rape and murder of a nurse, directing officials to take steps to ensure that the case is tried in a fast-track court.

Reddy took serious note of the incident and asked officials to work towards securing speedy justice for the victim.

According to an official release issued on Sunday, the chief minister directed officials to examine all aspects of the case, including the circumstances surrounding the incident, security arrangements at the victim’s accommodation and any possible negligence by the management.

He also asked officials to verify whether mandatory safety protocols for female employees were being properly implemented.

Reddy directed officials to complete the investigation process at the earliest, including the collection of forensic reports and other technical evidence, so that the chargesheet can be filed without delay.

The chief minister assured that the government would extend all possible assistance to the victim’s family.

State ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and D Anasuya Seethakka have already visited the family.

The state government has provided financial assistance to the victim’s family and sanctioned a house under the ‘Indiramma’ housing scheme.

Police have arrested a 34-year-old motorcycle mechanic from Bihar in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the nurse.

The woman, who belonged to an ST community, worked as a nurse at a hospital in the Thukkuguda area.

She was found dead on August 29 in a residential room on the hospital premises, police said.  (with inputs from PTI)
