Revanth Reddy’s ‘pig’ jibe at KCR triggers sharp BRS response

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's remarks comparing BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao to a pig have triggered a sharp backlash from the BRS, with senior leader T Harish Rao demanding an unconditional apology.

Speaking at a public meeting in Hyderabad on Monday after inaugurating the Moosarambagh-Amberpet bridge, Reddy went after Rao over the BRS campaign targeting the Congress government's 1,000-day rule. He called for six days of dharnas starting Tuesday demanding Rao's resignation, accusing him of staying confined to his farmhouse and skipping the Assembly for 1,000 days. Reddy also challenged Rao to a public debate comparing the Congress government's 1,000 days with the BRS's decade in power, with the next Assembly session set to begin September 7.

Harish Rao hit back the same day, saying Reddy's own "1,000 days of Congress rule" had made clear who the real "pig" was. He said personal abuse would not raise Reddy's stature and accused the chief minister of using insults against Rao to deflect from questions about his government's performance. The BRS separately demanded Reddy withdraw the remarks and apologise unconditionally.

The exchange comes as the Congress government approaches its 1,000-day milestone on Tuesday. Reddy has pointed to 72,000 government jobs, Rs 1.70 lakh crore spent on farmer welfare and a Niti Aayog assessment on farmer debt as achievements of his tenure. He has also accused the previous BRS government of concentrating political posts within Rao's family, citing the appointments of KT Rama Rao and Harish Rao as ministers under the earlier regime.

The BRS has continued to press its own campaign highlighting what it calls the Congress government's unfulfilled promises over the same 1,000 days.
