Revanth Reddy asks Congress MLAs to attend Assembly and protect voter rights

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday asked all Congress MLAs to attend the ongoing Assembly session regularly and raise issues concerning their respective constituencies.

Addressing the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, Revanth Reddy thanked the legislators for their support during the government’s 1,000 days in office and stressed the need for their active participation in Assembly debates.

The Chief Minister told the MLAs that their performance and conduct would play a key role in determining their political future and the Congress party’s prospects of returning to power in the next elections.

Revanth Reddy also praised the legislators for countering what he described as an opposition conspiracy to disrupt the Assembly session. He accused BRS leaders of attacking police officials, abusing public representatives and using objectionable language against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The Chief Minister also criticised the BRS over incidents surrounding protests near former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse. He alleged that BRS leaders had acted inappropriately towards officials and said the alleged “purification” of the ground after Dalits had walked there was an insult to the community.

Revanth Reddy also criticised BRS leaders K T Rama Rao, Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Sabitha Indra Reddy, alleging that they were working against the Congress despite having benefited politically from the party.

On the caste census, the Chief Minister asked Congress legislators to mount pressure on the Centre to conduct a caste census alongside the general census, citing Telangana’s exercise as a model for the country.

He also expressed concern over voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and directed Congress MLAs to work to protect the voting rights of people in their constituencies.

According to the Chief Minister, around 15 crore adult voter names have gone missing across the country. He said the estimated adult population was about 103 crore, while the voter list had around 88 crore names.
