Rekha Gupta launches 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign at Delhi University

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign at Delhi University, joining teachers, students, officials and volunteers in a cleanliness drive across the campus and adjoining Kamala Nehru Ridge.

The campaign began at 7.30 am with participants taking a cleanliness pledge at the roundabout near Gwyer Hall Hostel, officials said.

Gupta, along with members of her team, then participated in the drive as volunteers collected waste along the route towards Kamala Nehru Ridge through the PG Men's Hostel and University Guest House.

The cleanliness exercise also covered the Kamala Nehru Ridge area opposite Gate No. 1 of the university.

This year's campaign is being held under the theme "Participation in Cleanliness: Clean India, Developed India", with the slogan "One Day, One Hour, Together".

A large number of DU teachers, officials, staff and students took part in the drive, along with DUSU office-bearers, MCD personnel and NSS volunteers.

Among those present were DU South Campus Director Rajni Abbi, School of Open Learning Director Payal Mago, MCD North Zone Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti, MLA Surya Prakash Khatri, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Gandhi Bhawan Director K P Singh.

Singh, who is also the university's nodal officer for the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, said Delhi University is observing the campaign from September 17 to October 17.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging wider participation in cleanliness activities across the university and its surrounding areas.
