Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak Booked in Punjab, Two FIRs Filed

Punjab Police has reportedly registered two FIRs against Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who recently switched from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), sources said on Saturday.

According to officials, both FIRs have been filed under non-bailable sections, although specific details regarding the charges have not yet been made public.

Pathak was among seven Rajya Sabha MPs who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, in a major political development that significantly impacted the party’s strength in the Upper House.

The resignations, announced on April 24, included prominent leaders such as Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney and Swati Maliwal. The MPs cited a departure from the party’s founding principles and values as the reason for their exit.

Subsequently, Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan accepted their merger with the BJP, reducing AAP’s presence in the Upper House to just three members.

Further details regarding the case against Pathak are awaited as investigations continue.
