Rajya Sabha adjourned till Monday amid Opposition protests over Amit Shah's absence

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday, with proceedings suspended until Monday after repeated disruptions by Opposition members demanding the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah in the House.

The House witnessed noisy scenes during both the morning sitting and Question Hour as Opposition MPs raised slogans over Shah's absence and the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Chairman C P Radhakrishnan continued with listed business despite the protests, while Treasury bench members countered the Opposition's disruptions. With the uproar persisting, he adjourned the House for the day.

Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge questioned Shah's continued absence during the ongoing Monsoon Session.

Opposition parties have been demanding that the home minister make a statement on the July 20 police action against protesters marching towards Parliament over the alleged NEET paper leak.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju rejected the Opposition's demand, saying Shah remained in Parliament throughout the day and ministers attended proceedings according to the business listed for their respective ministries.

Rijiju also accused the Opposition of disrupting proceedings with slogans before walking out of the House.

The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned until noon before being adjourned for the remainder of the day as protests continued.
