Two women arrested for allegedly forcing 12-year-old into prostitution in Rajkot

Two women were arrested for allegedly forcing a 12-year-old girl into prostitution after luring her with the promise of a catering job, police said on Thursday.

The accused, Rekha Sagathiya and Alpa Galchar, lived near the minor's house and approached her on September 11, offering her a catering job for Rs 500, Assistant Commissioner of Police B V Jadav said.

The women allegedly took the girl to another location, where she was forced into prostitution, he said.

The minor told her mother on September 14 that she had been forced into prostitution for four days, following which a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Both accused were arrested on Wednesday and further investigation is underway, police said.
