Rajasthan rains: Jaipur gets 37.8 mm, monsoon withdrawal likely from September 19

Several parts of Rajasthan received moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday as a low-pressure area over Saurashtra and the adjoining Arabian Sea, along with a fresh western disturbance, influenced weather conditions across the state, the meteorological department said.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, the state capital recorded 37.8 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Sikar received 26 mm, while Ajmer recorded 21.3 mm during the same period. Kota received 11.6 mm, while Vanasthali and Mount Abu recorded 1 mm each and Jalore 0.5 mm.

Heavy rain in Jaipur during the evening led to waterlogging on several roads and caused traffic congestion at multiple locations.

The weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall in parts of the Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur divisions on Friday.

The department said conditions could become favourable for the southwest monsoon to begin withdrawing from some parts of western Rajasthan around September 19 as rainfall activity weakens.

Most parts of the state are expected to experience mainly dry weather from September 21, according to the forecast.
