Punjab Police inspector arrested in Ferozepur with 3.35 kg heroin, six pistols

A Punjab Police inspector posted with the Counter Intelligence wing was arrested in Ferozepur after police allegedly recovered 3.35 kg of heroin, six pistols and ammunition from his car, officials said on Saturday.

Inspector Baldev Singh was intercepted on the Ferozepur-Moga road after police received information about his vehicle. A search allegedly led to the recovery of 3.350 kg heroin, six pistols with magazines, four additional magazines, seven live cartridges and six mobile phones, Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said.

A case has been registered against Singh at Ghall Khurd police station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

Police are investigating whether other people, including personnel within the police department, were involved in the alleged drug and arms operation. The SSP said the accused would be produced before a court and sought in police remand.

Fresh update: The arrest comes amid a series of major narcotics seizures in Ferozepur and neighbouring Faridkot. Earlier this week, Ferozepur Police arrested three alleged members of a cross-border smuggling network and recovered 6.255 kg of heroin, with investigators probing alleged drone-based supply from Pakistan.

In a separate Faridkot operation earlier this month, police seized 47.3 kg of heroin along with three pistols, magazines and ammunition and arrested four alleged members of a cross-border network.
