Pratapgarh dowry death: Woman found hanging, husband and in-laws booked; two arrested

A 25-year-old woman was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, following which police registered a dowry death case against her husband and his parents, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Rohini alias Antima, was found hanging inside a room at the family’s home in Jamethi village on Wednesday. Police sent her body for post-mortem examination after being informed about the incident.
According to a complaint filed by Rohini’s father, Ganga Sagar Mishra, she married Akash Mishra in February 2025. He alleged that she had been facing harassment from her in-laws over demands for dowry.
Mishra further alleged that after the demands were not met, the accused killed his daughter and hanged her body to make the death appear to be a suicide.
Based on the complaint, Kunda police registered a case of dowry death against Akash, his mother Manju Mishra and father Anirudh Mishra.
Circle Officer Kunda Shiv Narayan Bais said Manju and Anirudh have been arrested, while police teams are working to trace and arrest Akash. The allegations will be subject to investigation and post-mortem findings.
