PM Modi To Visit Sweden During Third Leg Of Five-Nation Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin the third leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour with a visit to Gothenburg on Sunday at the invitation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The visit, scheduled for May 17–18, is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Sweden across sectors such as trade, innovation and emerging technologies.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit aims to further deepen strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi had previously visited Sweden in 2018 for the first-ever India-Nordic Summit, marking a significant step in India’s engagement with Nordic nations.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Kristersson are expected to hold bilateral talks covering the full spectrum of India-Sweden relations.
Discussions will focus on increasing bilateral trade, which reached approximately $7.75 billion in 2025, while Swedish foreign direct investment in India stood at nearly $2.825 billion between 2000 and 2025.
Key areas expected to dominate discussions include green transition, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, defence manufacturing, space cooperation, climate action and strengthening people-to-people ties. Sweden, known for its innovation-driven economy, remains an important partner for India in future-focused sectors.
