3 policemen killed, 2 civilians injured in gun attack in northwest Pakistan

Three policemen were killed and two civilians injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a traffic police van in Pakistan's northwestern Tank district on Monday, police said.

The armed assailants, riding a motorcycle, ambushed the police vehicle in the Wazirabad area of Tank district, which borders South Waziristan, a police official said.

The attackers opened fire on the van before fleeing the scene. Three policemen were killed in the attack, while two civilians who were standing nearby sustained injuries, the official said.

A heavy contingent of police rushed to the area following the incident and cordoned it off.

The bodies of the policemen and the injured civilians were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Police launched an investigation into the attack, while efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the assailants.
