Pakistan security forces kill 10 terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa operations

Pakistan's security forces killed 10 suspected terrorists in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military's media wing said on Friday, Aug 7.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), eight militants were killed after they attempted to attack security checkposts in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan on Thursday. Two more were killed in a separate operation in Upper Dir district.

The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who it alleged were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region.

Pakistan's government refers to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the operations and reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing counterterrorism efforts until militancy is eradicated.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a resurgence in militant violence since the collapse of the government's ceasefire agreement with the TTP in November 2022, with authorities blaming the group for a series of attacks across the province.
