Pakistan says airstrikes target militant hideouts in Afghanistan, killing 28; Kabul says 3 killed

Pakistani fighter jets carried out airstrikes on Monday targeting what security officials described as suspected militant hideouts in eastern Afghanistan, with authorities claiming that 28 militants were killed.

Authorities in Kabul, however, said at least three people were killed in the strikes.

The attacks near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border marked a fresh escalation in tensions between the two countries. The development could lead to further cross-border hostilities and make mediation efforts by regional countries, including China to mediate between Islamabad and Kabul.

The strikes followed a warning from Pakistan that it could target militants inside Afghanistan after two deadly attacks on its security forces near the border in recent days.  (with inputs from PTI)
