NIA searches 10 locations in J&K over cross-border terror conspiracy

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday searched 10 locations across Jammu and Kashmir as part of its probe into an alleged cross-border terror conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers and a network of local Over Ground Workers (OGWs).
The searches were carried out in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama and Budgam to gather documentary, digital and other evidence and establish the alleged roles of people linked to the local support network, the NIA said in a statement.
The case dates back to the arrest of an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) OGW at a naka point late on March 31, 2026. A hand grenade and live ammunition were allegedly recovered from his possession.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Pakistani terrorists allegedly connected to the conspiracy, while investigators identified several local associates suspected of supporting the network, according to the agency.
The NIA said the investigation has so far pointed to alleged links between Pakistan-based handlers and their local contacts. The latter were allegedly used to facilitate communication, arrange movement, provide shelter and concealment, conduct reconnaissance and assist infiltrated terrorists.
Investigators are also examining the financial trail, communication networks, movements of suspects and the source of weapons and explosives, the agency said.
The Saturday searches are part of the wider investigation into the alleged support infrastructure behind cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NIA said evidence collected during the searches would be examined and matched with other material gathered during the probe.
The agency is continuing efforts to identify all those allegedly involved and determine their individual roles. Further arrests or recoveries could follow depending on the findings of the investigation, it said.
