Nepal Airlines apologises over incorrect India map

Nepal Airlines on Thursday issued a formal apology after facing widespread backlash over a “cartographic inaccuracy” in a network map shared on its social media platforms. The now-deleted map appeared to depict Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), along with Ladakh, as part of Pakistan-triggering strong reactions online due to the sensitivity of the issue.

The controversy began on Wednesday when the airline posted the map, which quickly drew criticism from users who flagged the depiction as incorrect and politically sensitive. As the post gained traction and outrage mounted, Nepal Airlines removed the content and moved to address the concerns.

In an official statement posted on X, the airline acknowledged the error and expressed regret. “We sincerely apologise for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels. The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries and does not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines,” the statement read.

The airline said it had taken immediate corrective measures and launched an internal review. “We have promptly removed the post and initiated an internal review process to ensure that all future communications and materials meet the highest standards of accuracy and responsibility,” it added.
