PM Modi pays tribute to Adi Shankaracharya
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage to Adi Guru Shankaracharya on his birth anniversary and said his profound teachings, thoughts and philosophy of ‘Advaita Vedanta’ continue to guide innumerable people globally. Modi said Adi Guru Shankaracharya emphasised harmony, discipline, and the oneness of all existence, and his efforts to revitalise spiritual thought and establish spiritual centres across the nation remain a lasting inspiration. “On the sacred occasion of Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti, paying homage to one of India’s greatest spiritual luminaries. His profound teachings, thoughts and philosophy of ‘Advaita Vedanta’ continue to guide innumerable people globally... May his wisdom continue to illuminate our path and strengthen our commitment to truth, compassion and collective well-being,” he said in a social media post.

Chiefs of Parliament panels reappointed
Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan has reappointed AIADMK member M Thambi Durai as Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances and DMK member Tiruchi Siva as the Chairman of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry.
“The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, has nominated M Thambi Durai, Member, Rajya Sabha, to be a member of the Committee on Government Assurances and also re-appointed him to be the Chairman of the said Committee w.e.f. the April 18, 2026,” an official notification from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat said.
“The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, has nominated Shri Tiruchi Siva, Member, Rajya Sabha, to be a member of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry and also re-appointed him to be the Chairman of the said Committee w.e.f. the April 18, 2026,” another notification said.
The tenures of both Thambi Durai and Siva had ended on April 2, 2026, and both were re-elected for another term.
