NEW DELHI: All FIRs lodged against those who participated in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests in Delhi in July will be withdrawn, and no stringent action will be taken against them, Union Health Minister J P Nadda said on Tuesday, September 1.

Nadda's remarks came shortly after the Supreme Court quashed all FIRs registered against students who participated in the CJP-led protests across the country from July 20 to 25.

Following the Supreme Court's order and the Centre's assurance, the CJP called off its September 5 march in the national capital.

Welcoming the decision to withdraw the planned protest, Nadda said the Centre had consulted BJP-ruled states and received assurances that FIRs registered against CJP protesters would also be withdrawn in those states.

“We welcome the CJP's decision to call off the September 5 protest in Delhi,” Nadda told reporters here.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed all FIRs registered against students who took part in the CJP-led protests between July 20 and 25. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant also directed the Centre to provide compensation within three months to families of students who died by suicide over the NEET paper leak.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, calling it "absolute justice" and saying the outfit's demands had been met.

The protests, which began at Jantar Mantar on June 20, were centred on the NEET paper leak and related examination concerns. The CJP-led march on July 20 witnessed clashes between protesters and security personnel, with police using batons and tear gas to disperse protesters attempting to move towards Parliament.

The agitation later spread to several cities and included a demand for the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protests were called off on July 25 after Pradhan resigned and the government accepted the CJP's other demands.

Nadda said the welfare and progress of the country's youth remained the government's utmost priority.
