Kanwariya killed, 21 injured as tractor-trolley falls off bridge in MP's Dhar

A 42-year-old Kanwariya was killed and 21 others were injured, including two critically, after a tractor-trolley carrying devotees fell from a bridge in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Monday, August 24, police said.

The accident took place in Kadmal village under the Kukshi police station area, around 120 km from the Dhar district headquarters.

The devotees were travelling to Old Chikhalda to collect water from the Narmada River on the fourth and final Monday of the holy Shravan month when the accident occurred.

Kukshi Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Sunil Gupta identified the deceased as Rajendra Patidar.

Patidar was taken to a hospital in neighbouring Barwani, where he died shortly after being admitted, Gupta said.

More than 30 devotees were travelling in the tractor-trolley at the time of the accident, according to preliminary information.

The initial investigation indicates that a steering failure may have caused the tractor to lose control and plunge off the bridge, the officer said.

The injured have been admitted to the Barwani district hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Manohar Patidar, who was travelling behind the tractor, said more than 30 people were aboard the vehicle, including two women.
