MP: Parents follow son in death, die by suicide near railway track

Devastated by the suicide of their 30-year-old son after he jumped in front of a train in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, his parents killed themselves by lying before a moving train on Friday, barely 2 km away from the spot where their son died, police said.

Police prima facie suspect a family dispute as the trigger behind the incidents.

Mukesh Ahirwar, a resident of Karaiya village under the Hindoriya police station, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near Karaiya railway crossing on the Damoh-Katni rail route in the afternoon, police said.

After learning about his death, his parents, Bharat Ahirwar (58) and Uma Ahirwar (55), reached the spot and later went about two kilometres away. The couple then lay down on the railway tracks and died after being run over by a train, police said, adding that the tragic incidents unfolded within an hour.

Kotwali police station house officer Manish Kumar said the cause of Mukesh's suicide was not immediately known. A family dispute was suspected to have led to the death of the trio.

Mukesh worked as a security guard at the district hospital and had married two years ago, police said.

His younger brother Daulat had gone to Sagar to bring their sister home for Raksha Bandhan when the incidents occurred.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the deaths.
