Mob attack on family at Nashik tourist spot: three accused held

Three of the main accused in the case related to the attack on a family at a tourist spot in Maharashtra’s Nashik district have been arrested, taking the total number of persons held so far to 12, a police official said on Thursday. The family was attacked on July 12 near Bhavali dam in Igatpur taluka, the official said.

“As per the complaint of a 44-year-old woman, she and her husband, son, daughter, brother-in-law and two nephews had gone to see the waterfall there. Two youths began misbehaving with the woman and then assaulted the family when they confronted the youths,” he said.

The woman’s clothes were torn by the accused, who also snatched a 20-gram gold chain and a mobile phone, the official said, citing the FIR contents. “The group chased the family’s vehicle, vandalised it and also tried to hit those insides with bats and sticks. A video of an accused hanging to the door of the family’s moving car during the attack went viral,” he said.

A case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Igatpuri police station, following which nine persons were arrested on Tuesday. They were identified as Vishal Machhindra Bhatate (27), Aniket Ganesh Manvedhe (24), Aniruddha Vithoba Bhagde (25), Sagar alias Lokesh Gokul Gite (22), Vinod Laxman Borade (26), Sachin Dattu Adole (29), Arjun Chindhu Adole (25), Devidas Kacharu Bhagat (25) and Ajay Bhushan Dalbhagat (20), he said.
