Massive Boulder Crushes Car in Nainital 25 Families Evacuated After Hill Collapse

Panic gripped parts of Nainital after a massive boulder rolled down a hillside and crushed a parked car in the Tallital area, prompting authorities to evacuate around 25 families as a precaution.
The incident took place in the Krishnapur locality on Monday evening, where the large rock completely flattened the vehicle. Smaller debris from the slide also pushed a scooter and a motorcycle into a nearby gorge.
Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported, as no one was present at the site at the time. However, residents said the boulder narrowly missed several houses situated downhill.
Locals alleged that ongoing construction work in the area may have destabilised the rock. Some residents claimed that earlier drilling work on the boulder was left incomplete, increasing the risk of collapse.
As a safety measure, the district administration relocated affected families to a nearby school, where temporary arrangements for food and shelter have been made under the supervision of Tehsildar Akshay Bhatt.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khalik said residents will be allowed to return only after all unstable rocks are safely removed and the area is declared secure.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess risks to prevent further incidents.
